INDIVIDUAL WORK 2
On the 29th of september me and izzy sat in lesson time and split half the story board and cropped the pictures on publisher, opend in paint and saved them as single photos in order to create the anomatronics storyboard. Then in two and a half hours of my own time i opened movie maker and created the first draft of our storyboard.

INDIVIDUAL WORK 1
On the 27th of september me and izzy sat through our free periods at school and planned out all the timings and did the story board. When we went home i wrote up a paragraph about our ideas for the digipak and izzy wrote the timings up in neat. I downloaded nikki minajs song to my computer in order to create the 'animatronics storyboard.'
RMA-7-Album cover-Christina Aguilera
The background of this poster is white, this allows the black and white picture of christina to stand out. The small printed writing on each side of her is a very feminine font which is very suitable as the main target audience is females. Down in the bottom left hand corner of the poster there is the word ‘stripped’ which is the name of her album she is promoting. The font looks hand written and this makes it seem to the audince its very personal and important to her.
The long shot of the photo on the front allows the audience to view her physic and her clothing, The fact she has flesh n show reels in the male audience. The body language of the female singer represents a dance move which links to the fact she is involved in the music industry.
The singer is using indirect mode of address which shows a hint of mystery about her and suggests she has mire to offer if you buy her album. This is a good way to persuade the audience to buy her album.

RMA 3 - Keri Hilson, Kanye West + Neyo - Knock You Down
Keri Hilson Feat Kanye West And Neyo - Knock You Down Music Video
Keri Hilson’s ‘Knock You Down’ featuring Ne-Yo and Kanye West is pop/RnB/hip-hop genre and rillustrates genre characteristics, relationships between lyrics and visuals and it is a narrative video which tells the story of how a girl feels after being hurt by her partner.
There are many voyeuristic shots of Keri dancing she is illustrated dancing and flaunting her body to the camera in time with the beat. She is exemplified dancing in a way whereby her moves are sharp, strong and sexy. The dancing that the singer performs in her music video clearly portrays an element of hip-hop and electropop which are the genre characteristics of her video.
In this video there is a distinct relationship between lyrics and visuals as they are amplified. This is a perfect video that represents this well. The part where she says “You knocked me down,” as the camera focuses on Keri and shows her body floating in the air as she slowly begins to fall down on top of her bed illustrating that she has been ‘knocked down.’ Additionally, they do the same for the lyric, “I used to be commander in chief,” as Ne-Yo raises his hand to his head doing the salute sign that commanders did to show respect to one another. Another example of this is when kayne west says ‘this is bad, real bad Michael Jackson’ and the camera is on Kerri hilson as she grabs her crotch area with one hand and throws the other in the air. Clearly, visuals and lyrics work exceptionally well together here.
Keri Hilson, Kanye West and Ne-Yo are each represented as being the main stars of the video. They are each represented by the use of close ups of their face which allows the audience to feel as though they can connect with them as they are able to feed off their facial expressions and emotions. Certain close up’s show an artists charisma, confidence, attractiveness as they stare into the camera providing the audience with their full attention and with a warm, gentle smile.
There are quite a few intertextual references made in this music video, these being the opening credits at the beginning of the music video as it displays the name of the single and the names of the three singers staring and singing in the video. This is similar to films openings as during the beginning of the film the credits will appear on screen displaying the names of the actors and actresses followed by the title of the film. At one point Ne-Yo sings “Miss Independent,” which is the name of his previous single. This is another intertextual reference as he is referring back to his earlier single and promoting it through this song so people will still go out and buy it.

RMA2- Pixie Lott - All About Tonight
The video begins with a light electro upbeat tune for the introduction of the song which gives off the impression to the audience that the best itself will increase throughout the music video. This blends with the vibrant, bright, images, that is, features of Pixie’s face and the night life setting of America as they fade into each other it looks very effective and gives off the impresion them two mixed together is exactly what is going to happen in the video. Both the sound and vision blend well together here.
During the video Pixie Lott’s dance routine appears on screen where her moves are sharp, elegant and fast paced due to the frames changing and being cut quickly. Each of the many dance routines that Pixie performs throughout her music video shows an element of electropop and dance-pop which are the genre characteristics of her video.
Throughout the music video there is a distinct relationship between the lyrics and visuals. For example, in the chorus Pixie sings “Yeah the night is alive, you can feel the heartbeat, let’s just go with the flow, we’ve been working all week, tomorrow doesn’t matter when your moving your feet, it’s all about tonight.” When you watch the dance routine to the lyrics she’s singing you begin to see how she dances according to what she says. For the lyric “you can feel the heartbeat” she places her hand across her heart to sort of almost ’act out’ the phrase shes singing. Additionally, she does the same when she sings “tomorrow doesn’t matter when you’re moving your feet” as she starts to lift her feet into the air and point down towards it. Lyrics and visulas are mainly represen ted with dance moves in this music video.
Pixie is greatly promoted in the video as she is portrayed as being the main person of the video. Clearly, she is represented by the use of close ups of her face and some areas of her physique. The close ups of the singers face allows the audience to connect with her as they feed off her emotions and facial expressions. Particular close ups depict her sweetness and lovability as she beams into the camera showing off a friendly, warm smile, with pretty hair and glittsey make-up. When seeing her the audience then remember the singer is a young female just having fun.
I Notice the bright lighting beaming onto Pixie’s face, exaggerating her features such as her bright eyes and flawless skin, giving the impression that she is a joyful person and we feel her cheerfulness. I also Noticed the mixture between the high and low key lighting which is projected across the singer’s face which slightly contradicts the previous close up. Here we see a more sassy, rock – chick persona as she looks less sweet and more mischievous and cheeky.
The video often focuses on many close ups of Pixie’s body – not only her facial features, but particularly focusing on her legs. Using her as a traditional role as a sex object. According to reports, in music videos and advertising, women’s bodies are used sexually and focused on by using close up’s to sell the product as it will capture audiences attention hence why in this music video, the camera continually focuses on Pixie’s legs to flaunt them to the audience especially to the male audience.

RMA 4 - Rhianna Digipak Analysis
The genre of this album is not made very clear just by looking at the photo. The facial expressions the artist has, especially on the large cover showing her with her eyes closed which indicates to be she is embracing the music this then comes across like each song means alot to her and alot of thought has gone into distributing them. In the past rhinnas albums have had her fitting the stero-typical image with the clothing and attitude and facial expressions, but on the front of this album she has a totally knew look with the red hair and red lips, which makes her look alot more girly and sweet but her music still indicates she has the unique and sort of attitude in her.Rihanna has her own face on her own album, this works well because with rihannna being so well known she attracts in her fans immediatly. If she was to use something that wasn’t her, it wouldn’t work well as fans may not even realise it was her album. Her bright and very fiesty red hair is definately what will make her stand out from other artists on the shelf and her read bold lips. Her facial expression shows she has the attitude that everyone knows is a part of her personality, and without it, rihanna wouldn’t be rihanna. Also we can notice her tattoo on her neck this indicates to the audience she still has the wild side and bad girl elements inside of her.
The colour scheme that has been choosed for this album is red the reason I think this was choosed is because towards the release date of her album rihanna took on a whole new look and went for the red hair and red lips, and I think this has been done to emphasise her change in life. The red roses contrast well agaisnt the artists skin and also make the whole scene bolder and eyecatching which is exactly what people look for in the album. It is instantly more eyecatching and very interesting. The colour red also indicates to me as ’love’ this could mean she just wants the fans to love her and accept her. In the main album cover the artist looks deep in thought which could make the audience wonder exactly what the aim of the image was, she is using in-direct mode of address and not engaging with the audience to make it seem more secret and mischievous.
The font that has been used on this album cover is very plain and simple and not too big but not too small and this is because they did not want the image of the artist to be ruined and they wand all attention on the stunning picture of the artist. The name of the artist is not to big to show basically ‘the picture says it all’. The font of the album title has benn made just that bit larger and with the large spaces between each letter it makes it look more unique and different and very clear which is exactly what the artist is like.

How My Research Will Inform My Planning
When I first pulish the music video I would be to put it onto you tube in order to promote the song, the artist and the video. You tube is free to use so more people are able to gain access to. People would also be able to share the video link between friends on social websites such as Facebook which would then get more interest from the public and promote the video further. Word of mouth is the most effective way in which things get around. Many age ranges listen to pop/rnb so the audience for the music video would be very diverse.
I would also sell the music videos on iTunes for roughly £1.50 because, after researching it on iTunes, the majority of music videos for this genre are around that price and I think it is very resonable. This would create profit and fans would be likely to buy if they would like to be able to watch away from internet connection.Another approach to publishing the video would be to put it on music channels to display it. Popular channels such as MTV Hits and VH1 or Kiss, these are all quite popular for pop/RnB music videos. I would also put the video up on the popstar's website because fans of the star would visit the site quite reguarly. This would generate more awareness of the video and would again promote it successfully.

Focus Group.
Q1.Are You Female or Male?
my results show that I questioned 5 males and 5 females. This was something I did intentionally so I could have an equal opion from both genders and see how and if it makes a different to both men and women what music videos consist of etc.
Q2.How Old Are You?
The majority of the people I asked were between the ages of 16 and 20 years old which means that my results will be biased towards this age group. The reason for doing this was because my friends around sixth form are of that age I did ask my a few older members of my family because I wanted to make sure that the results I ended up with were varied. i should have asked an equal amount of each age as looking at my results from this question and at the results from my question about how often they watch music videos, I can see that the 16-20 year olds watch music videos more regularly than the other age groups so I am likely to get more specific and relevant results from this age group in order to help me out because they have a better understanding of the music videos and channels to find pop genre etc.
Q3.Do You Watch Music Videos Often?
Looking at the results I gained from this and then linking them to the results from the previous question, I can see that the people who said that they do watch music videos often are all below the age of 27. This helps me with my target market because I can see that my biggest audience would be people under the age or around the age of 20 years old.
.
Q4.Where do you find the music videos you watch?
The majority of the people said that they found the music videos they liked on the music channels, obviously whilst sat browsing the channels they found they came across catchy songs or the video simply intreged them. The minority side of the people said they find there videos on the internet and both put in brackets on the side of the page (you tube),This means that this website must be popular for promoting artist’s online and so I would need to look into this further. With my own personal view I also agree that you tube is a rather well known and used page.
Q5.What Genre of Music Video Do You Watch?
The majority of people I surveyed said that they watch rnb music videos most often, followed by hiphop. The two of these genres are similar in terms of their music video, for example they are both quite often both genres that will have a narrative based video to the song. So these genres are definitely genres to consider when choosing a song. Dubstep and dance music also appeared as a vote.
Q6. Name a singer/band from your childhood you remember
The answer that came up quite often was the band steps. I think this answer was common because the groupitself was very different from anything at the time. There music videos were almost like a mini sreening and they always involved a full story line, a dance number and interesting costumes. The reason why I askwed this question was in order to help me choose a song froM five years back that didn’t have a music video.
Q7.What Do You Expect To See in a Pop Music Video?
The results from this were all quite similar. People expected to see all the ‘cheesy’ stereo-typical things such as the smiley faces and close up to the cameras and the balloons, beaches and dancing etc. I suppose this would depend on the song; if the song were to be about a something sad then the video would not be so happy or may not include the happier things in life. Instead of the happy dance routines maybe some slow depressing ballet.
Q8.If you know who nikki minaj is, what would you ex
pect to see in one of her music videos?
All the answers again vere very similar and repeated. Every person knew of who she was and had seen a music video from her as she is a very popular artist, most people said music video was very fun and colourful, men, girls dancing, neon colours and make-up were all answers people gave.
Q9. Do you think a music video is a good way of promoting an artist’s new song?
All ten of the people I surveyed said that they think that a music video is a good way of promoting an artist's new song. This shows that institutions benefit from making music videos to match there song, men, girls dancing, neon colours and make-up were all answers people gave.
RMA 6 - Album cover - Black Eyed Peas
The background appears to be like a studion set design, and it seems to have a back drop of graphics and this enphasises how new and modern the band is. Their clothing appears to be dark and mostly black. Apart from the member on the far left he is wearing a white jacket. This suggests how he maybe one of the main members of the band. The fact they are in dark clothing suggests that they are not and have more of a rebellious side to them, linking to the hiphop side of their music. The pose and stance they are positioned in looks as if they are in mid-performance and have been snapped in the middle of their routine.
Their title ‘THE BLACKED EYED PEAS’ is in bold capital letters, this comes across as they are emphasising their importance and want everyone to know how big they are. Coming down from two letters in there band is lightning strikes, this to me represents the shock of how important they are, or the shock of how good their music is.
They are all using direct mode of address, making the audience feel like they are looking at them and engaging there attention.
Questionnaire results- Digipak
What Would You Expect To See Inside a Digipak?

All 4 options were similarly popular but all 10 people said they'd expect to see images of the popstar in the digipak. Then both 'Lyrics In The Booklet' and 'A Message From The Popstar' followed with 8 so this shows that izzy and I should consider using these 3 things when producing our digipak.
What Colours Would You Associate Most With a Pop Album? You Can Circle More Than One.

The Majority of people said they would expect to find pink on a pop album. So I think this is definitely a colour we should consider including or maybe even using as a main colour. Black was thenext most popular colours to be found on a op album so I think maybe we could choose a combination of 2 colours etc.
Would You Want To See Images Of The Artist More, Or Would You Prefer To See More Text? e.g. Lyrics.
An even amount of people said text and lyrics, which means it would be best if izzy and I include an even amount of each so that the digipak is not too clustered with images but also not too filled up with text.
How Many Songs Do You Think The Album Should Inlcude? Circle One Answer.

How Many Songs Do You Think The Album Should Inlcude? Circle One Answer.

My results show that an even amount of people would like to see between 6 and 10 songs and between 11 and 15 songs. Since the results are so equal, izzy and I could decide any number of songs between 6 and 15 and this should hopefully please our target market.
What Makes You Buy a CD Over Downloading The Song Illegally or From iTunes?
The majority of people who answered this question said that they like to buy CD's because they like to have the hard copy of it- so if their computer crashes they wont lose all their music etc. A couple people also said that they prefer just have to have the CD as a sort of 'collection'. This shows that the institution is going to gain profit from selling the digipak as it is quite popular to have the CD either for a collection or just to have as a hard copy.

RMA 5 - Katy Perry - Teenage Dream - Digipak

Throughout the digipak you can see the common theme of 'candy and sweets'. This could be suggesting the artist is sweet herself. This can also be noticed on the CD designs. One being a donut and one being swirly like a candy cane. The images of Katy laying on a candy floss cloud is a bit of a contrast because she looks to be wearing pretty much nothing with a very serious facial expression but the sweets suggest she is ’sweet’ this links with the name ’teenage dream’ im sure every girl would love to lay on a cloud of candy floss and every teenage boy would love to ’kiss’ katy perry.
In the top image she looks very mischievous and cheeky and you can also see her wearing a crown of sweets, suggesting ‘im the queen of pop but I like to be unique‘. On the track listing some of the letters have been replaced with sweets and this keeps in with the theme of the digipak. The digipak ties in with the genre of music as it relates to her style of music which is pop and also gives the audience the idea that her music is not serious and is more on the fun side, it gives off the vibe she wants people to have a laugh with life and not be too serious.
The digipak appeals to a wide audience, although the colours are mostly pinks and blues which is quite girly and the theme is more targeted at females, The fact that she is naked on the front cover could appeal to males as it is quite ‘sexy‘. The red colours on the digipak not only tie in with the theme but also could represent seductiveness and passion contradicting the sweet innocence of the light pinks and blues.

RMA 1 - Rain Over Me - Pitbull + Marc Anthony.
The video begins with the sound of a helicopter flying overhead even though it does not make an appearance in this scene it it very clear what the noise is and that it is coming from overhead as the camera is panning from a birds eye view angle, yet a few seconds later a light, mellow electro tune is heard very softly in the background as Marc Anthony sings the beginning lines of the song. However, the tune then begins to increase and get louder as the song progresses and carrys on doing so throughout. This goes together with the bright, powerful images, that is, close up’s of Marc Anthony’s face and the dessert landscape that Pitbull is dancing in; music and visuals match well and come across much more effective then not linking the two would.
The two artists Pitbull and Marc Anthony are promoted as being the main stars of the music video. They are each represented by the camera, the use of close ups of their face which clearly allows the audience to feel as though they can connect with them as they feed off their facial expressions and emotions and make you feel as though they are giving you one hundred percent of their attention. Throughout the video they sometimes use their expression to show a slightly cheeky side of themselves by raising their eyebrows and making signals towards the female dancers who are performing a motif throughout.
Throughout the music video there are references made portraying the genre of the song, however the most powerful scene in the video that illustrates this is when Pitbull and Marc Anthony perform, where they are dancing on screen in the rain whereby there moves are sharp, fun and fast paced due to the frames cutting between each other very quick. The dances that both the singers perform in their music video portray an element of hip-hop which is the genre of their music video.
In this particular music video there is a distinct relationship between the lyrics and visuals and they are made very clear. This is portrayed in the chorus when Pitbull and Marc Anthony sing “I’m rising so high, out of my mind, so let it rain over me.” we can then see a dance routine taking place and the lyrics that both Pitbull and Marc are singing you begin to see how they dance according to what they sing. For the lyric “Out of my mind,” Marc raises his hand to his head and begins to point and turn his finger to show that he is out of his mind. Additionally, they do the same for the lyrics “so let it rain over me,” as they both raise their arms into the air and the rain suddenly begins to rain down upon them depicting this; lyrics and visuals work very well together here.
I also notice the mixture between the high and low key lighting which is in this shot as the backdrop is dark with just a tint of light shining in from behind the singer and the female near him, as well as there being some high key lighting beaming onto their faces. Here we see a sassier, mischievous persona as we see a more playful and flirtacious side to the singer.
The video also focuses on a lot of close ups of the female dancers, not only of their faces and their epressions, but mainly focusing on their bodies; therefore using the women as a sexual objects. With the camera capturing the female dancer’s body the directors and producers are the flaunting the girls sexuality to help sell the video as it will capture the audiences attention. Especially the males. Additionally, in the video there is also the use of frame within a frame whereby wire-framing is used to import two different videos displaying two different scenes taking place in the music video. I find this very captivating.

AT - QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS - advertisements.
What would You Expect To See On An Advertisement In a Magazine That Is Advertising a Pop Singer’s New Album?

The majority of people would prefer to see text on the page, I believe this is because they want as much information on the album as they can have about the album, the tracks it contains and information on the artiest themselves. So I think it is best for us to use more text to inform the reader and persuade them to buy the album.
For this question most people preferred gossip magazines, this is because for the older more mature they want to hear about artists, new songs and albums being released and the pop magazines tend to be for a younger audience and therefore tend not to advertise new albums often.

The most popular options were the 'Release Date of the Album' and 'Images of the Album' and also the ‘cost’ in which the album will cost. so I think these three options me and Izzy should definitely include. The other options all had pretty similar results so I believe that we should include everything but the main things in a bigger print then the others.

What Colours Would Expect To Find on an Advertisement for a Pop/hiphop Album? You Can Circle More Than One

Pink was a popular colour, which was what I expected to see, as pop seems to be seen as a fun and happy genre of music. Pink is a very suttle colour that will represent the lively and bouncy but then again girly atmosphere wanting to be created. Black and silver were also popular which I believe are good choices when you think of an album cover or advertisement that’s hiphop or rnb you want it to look stylish.

Music Video Questionnair Results.
Q1. Are you male or female?

my results show that I questioned 5 males and 5 females. This was something I did intentionally so I could have an equal opion from both genders and see how and if it makes a different to both men and women what music videos consist of etc.
Q2. How old are you?

Q3.How often do you watch music videos if ever?

Looking at the results I gained from this and then linking them to the results from the previous question, I can see that the people who said that they do watch music videos often are all below the age of 27. This helps me with my target market because I can see that my biggest audience would be people under the age or around the age of 20 years old.
Q4. Where do you find the music videos you watch?

The majority of the people said that they found the music videos they liked on the music channels, obviously whilst sat browsing the channels they found they came across catchy songs or the video simply intreged them. The minority side of the people said they find there videos on the internet and both put in brackets on the side of the page (you tube),This means that this website must be popular for promoting artist’s online and so I would need to look into this further. With my own personal view I also agree that you tube is a rather well known and used page.
Q5. What genre of music video do you watch most often?

Q7. What do you expect to see in a pop music video?

The results from this were all quite similar. People expected to see all the ‘cheesy’ stereo-typical things such as the smiley faces and close up to the cameras and the balloons, beaches and dancing etc. I suppose this would depend on the song; if the song were to be about a something sad then the video would not be so happy or may not include the happier things in life. Instead of the happy dance routines maybe some slow depressing ballet.
Q8. If you know who nikki minaj is, what would you exoect to see in one of her music videos?

All the answers again vere very similar and repeated. Every person knew of who she was and had seen a music video from her as she is a very popular artist, One person said her Superbass music video was very fun and colourful, men, girls dancing, neon colours and make-up were all answers people gave.
